The state recorded 90 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, a jump of 55% from 58 cases on Tuesday. Meanwhile, active cases rose from 268 to 336, clocking a 25% rise in a day - probably the highest jump in more than six months.

The new Covid cases included 49 in Ahmedabad city, 10 from Mehsana, eight from Rajkot city, six from Surat city, and five each from Vadodara city and Sabarkantha among others.

With the update, active cases in Ahmedabad reached 180. To put the figures in perspective, two months ago on January 16, Ahmedabad had just one active case.

Other districts with more than 10 active cases included Surat (31), Rajkot (29), Mehsana (22), Vadodara (21) and Bhavnagar (11).

As of Wednesday, 14 out of 33 districts had no active Covid cases.

Ahmedabad-based experts said that with the change in weather and an overall spike in flu-like cases, the numbers are likely to rise in upcoming days.
