Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is the mastermind behind the murder of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moose Wala, police said on Wednesday.

Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) H.S. Dhaliwal said at least five people are involved in the murder.

Bishnoi , who is in the custody of Delhi Police, had not confessed to the crime despite being interrogated several times.

Dhaliwal said the police have arrested Siddhesh Hiraman Kamle, alias Mahakal, a close associate of the main shooter in the killing of Moose Wala.

According to police, Mahakal has been arrested from Pune while five more suspects have been identified in connection with the murder case.

Meanwhile, officials said that just 10 days ahead of Moose Wala's murder, the state police had sought a red-corner notice against gangster Goldy Brar, who had taken the responsibility for the killing.

A red-corner notice allows the arrest and detention of a fugitive abroad. Brar, a native of Sri Muktsar Sahib, had gone to Canada on a student visa in 2017 and he is an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Two cases had been registered against Brar in November 2020 and February 2021 on the charges of murder, attempt to murder and the Arms Act.

Moose Wala was shot dead in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29. Soon after the incident, Brar had taken responsibility and said that the murder was in retaliation of youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera's killing that took place last year.
