G.K. Pillai, who played greasepaint in Malayalam films and television serials for more than six decades, died on Friday, according to industry insiders. He was 97 years old at the time.

He died of a disease related to his age. Pillai retired from the Indian Army and Navy after a 13-year tenure in the military and began a famous film and television career, which he continued until two years ago.

He has appeared in almost 300 films, playing villains and excelling in parts based on traditional ballads from the state.

Pillai's baritone voice was his distinguishing attribute, which earned him many parts and several cinema prizes. In the meantime, he dabbled in politics and was seen about the Congress party. His wife predeceased him, and he is survived by six children.

He was a prominent character at numerous occasions, hailing from the capital city district.
