Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a day-long visit to Uttar Pradesh today. He will launch the ambitious PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission at a function organised in Varanasi.

Mr. Modi will also hold public meetings at Siddharth Nagar and subsequently in Varanasi. With the total outlay of 64,180 crore rupees, PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission is one of the largest pan-India schemes for strengthening health care infrastructure across the country and it will be in addition to the National Health Mission.

This Centrally sponsored scheme aims to fill the gaps in health infrastructure, surveillance and health research in urban and rural areas in the country for the next six years.

Under this scheme, critical care services will be available in all the districts of the country with more than five lakh populations, through Exclusive Critical Care Hospital Blocks, while the remaining districts will be covered through referral services.

The mega scheme will provide support for 17,788 rural Health and Wellness Centres in 10 High Focus States. Further 11,024 Urban Health and Wellness Centres will be established in all the states under this scheme.

The scheme also aims at operationalization of 17 new Public Health Units and strengthening of 33 existing Public Health Units at Points of Entry like airports, seaports and land crossings. This will help in effectively detecting, investigating, preventing and combating Public Health Emergencies and Disease Outbreaks. It will also work towards building up trained frontline health workforce to respond to any public health emergency.

The scheme targets to build an IT-enabled disease surveillance system by developing a network of surveillance laboratories at block, district, regional and national levels in metropolitan areas.

Sources reports, The Prime Minister will also dedicate 28 development projects and works worth over Rs 5,189 crore in his Parliamentary Constituency Varanasi. Along with projects and works related to road, bridge, tourism, railway and civic amenities. Mr. Modi will inaugurate the project of Varanasi Ring Road and 72-kilometre long Varanasi- Birnaun Gazhipur strectch of Varanasi-Gorakhpur NH-29.

Mr Modi will inaugurate nine newly built medical colleges in the state at a function in BSA ground in Siddharth Nagar. These medical colleges have been completed with cost of over Rs 2,329 crore in Siddharth Nagar, Etah, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Deoria, Ghazipur, Mirzapur and Jaunpur districts.

Out of total nine, eight medical colleges have been completed under centrally sponsored scheme and one has been made functional by the state government with its own resources.
