The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with visual communication platform Canva to launch three self-paced, digital training and certification programmes for teachers across India.

These courses will be available free of cost and are aimed at building digital, creative, and collaborative classroom skills among school teachers.

The Canva teacher training programme will be made available on DIKSHA, the Ministry of Education’s digital platform for school education.

It will also be broadcast via PM eVidya’s DTH TV channels, expanding accessibility to educators across regions, including those without internet connectivity.

The courses will be offered in multiple Indian languages to ensure wide participation.

Through the programme, educators will learn to use Canva Education for designing interactive lesson plans, presentations, infographics, and other teaching materials.

They will also gain exposure to collaborative teaching methods and use of artificial intelligence tools in the classroom. Upon completion, teachers will receive joint certification from NCERT and Canva.

Under the terms of the MoU, Canva will provide free access to its educational platform and tools, while also assisting in the development of teaching materials. NCERT will be responsible for aligning the content with India’s national curriculum and tailoring it for regional use.

The training programme is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focuses on enhancing visual learning, critical thinking, and design-based pedagogy. Educators will also be trained to use AI features to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

Through this initiative, Indian teachers will gain access to Canva Education’s extensive library, which includes over 500 apps and tools with elements such as games, translation support, worksheets, and infographics across subjects and grade levels. m

The platform’s AI-based tools will assist teachers in simplifying content creation while supporting time-efficient planning and delivery.

According to a statement from Canva, it’s education initiative has added over 25 million students and teachers in 2024 alone, growing its global learning community to over 100 million users.

Over the past year, the platform has seen a 50% rise in teacher usage and a 107% increase in student engagement. Canva’s AI tools such as Dream Lab are now widely used by educators to create customised visuals, further supporting digital learning environments globally.
