Aiming to spread the message of organ donation and aware people about importance of organ donation

HCG Cancer Centre, Vadodara and Spandan Hospital organise the 4th edition of SoleFest marathon aiming to spread the message of organ donation.

This year also participants will run upto 5-21 kilometers to aware the people about importance of organ donation. This year the organisers appealed the government agencies to mention the organ information of the donors on important identity cards like driving licence and Aadhar card.

By taking part in the Solefest one pledges to donate organs and give a new lease of life to many.

The marathon starts early morning 8th December 2019 on Sunday with hundreds of runners turned up on city roads for a noble cause. Like every year the participants spread the message through the event with messages written on their t-shirts and also through leaflets and playcards.

This initiative was started in 2017 to raise awareness about organ donation and promoting health and wellness.

Today from 650 participants in 2017 it is doubled to 1500 participant runners and the numbers is growing event by event.

By introducing Solefest to the masses the organisers like to promote the Prime Ministers “Fit India Movement” as well as raise awareness about Organ Donation. Solefest has succeeded in collecting more than 250 pledges across the four events, which is largest at one place in Vadodara.

Organ donation is all about gifting life. It is an important decision one chooses to give a life to many.

Despite India being a populous country, there is still shortage of people donating their organs. It could be due to lack of knowledge or understanding. Many die as they do not receive the organ on time.

Organ donation is a process of recovering organs. It is of two types-Live Donation and Deceased Donation. A healthy and living person can donate his/her liver or kidney (as the liver can yow back to its normal size and a person can live with one kidney). Deceased donation can take place when a person is declared brain dead.
