Despite Ahmedabad city district education officer (DEO) ordering private schools not to collect fees for the new academic year before the academic term begins, a private school in Maninagar has demanded parents to pay fees in advance.

Sources said that the parents of students studying in Divine Birds High School in Maninagar filed a complaint with the DEO saying that the school management has been demanding parents to pay for 2024-25 fees in advance.

Following the complaint, the DEO issued a show-cause notice to the school management asking them to respond within two days. If the school fails to respond within two days, the DEO will take punitive action against the school.

The DEO recently ordered that even after the beginning of academic sessions, the schools will be allowed to collect fees only the next three months.

Sources said the DEO issued this order to put an end to complaints from parents that private schools refuse to let their wards take exams or release their results if they have not paid fees.

Some had also complained that few schools demand that fees for the next six months should be paid in advance.
