Bank of Baroda is one of the largest public sector banks in India and is alleged to be a victim of cyber-attack. More than 1 TB of data is made available online on the dark web. BoB has issued the statement and said that “incident involved compromise of an employees’ email account resulting in unauthorized access to certain data however the core banking systems were not accessed and it is secure” it added.
The leaked information contains customer’s personal information, identity documents, loan-related information, internal audit reports.
BoB has initiated the forensic investigation with the help of relevant authorities.
However, it remains unclear how many customers’ data have been compromised. Cyber Security experts have suggested to customers that data leak can increase the risk of identity theft,phishing,misuse of KYC details. Customers are advised not to panic and avoid sharing OTPs and stay alert to suspicious calls and messages.
