Since the declaration of nationwide lockdown, the “Mission Food Distribution” at all 6 divisions of Western Rly has been a great tool of valuable support and help to large number of needy and stranded persons in nearby areas of various railway stations. Now they have included necessary grocery kits & homeopathic medicines for distribution to the people.

According to a press release, issued by WR CPRO Ravindra Bhakar, with the world in the grip of Corona pandemic, IRCTC and its base kitchen at Mumbai Central without a hint of giving up has continued its super efforts for providing meals to the troubled, poor and needy persons in Mumbai. Indian Railway’s Catering and Tourism Corporation’s kitchen in Mumbai Central, prepared & distributed 5600 community meals on 16th April, 2020 to NGOs spread over South and Central Mumbai like Giants Group, Nanhi Pari, Salaam Mumbai, Terapanth Yuvak Parishad etc. IRCTC’s base kitchen at Ahmedabad, provided 2500 community Bhojan packets, which were distributed through RPF jawans & teams of District Magistrate office of Ahmedabad.

In addition to IRCTC, Western Rly on its own continued mission food distribution through various other sources. So far, Mumbai Division of WR has supplied 1,08,000 meals & Ahmedabad division has supplied 93,950 food packets to poor and needy persons during corona lockdown period. 6200 food packets were distributed by Ahmedabad division RPF, Personnel department, Commercial department. Vadodara division has supplied 1550 food packets in Vadodara city through Akshaya Patra Foundation. Similarly, 120 food packets were distributed by Bhavnagar division with the help of NGOs at Sihor and out of 120 food packets 70 were distributed amongst labourers of Vartej station. 450 food packets were distributed by Ratlam division. 350 meals packets were distributed by Rajkot division.

As an inspirational initiative, 80 ration kits containing 5 kg aata, 1 kg rice, 500 gm mung daal, 1 litre oil, 1 kg sugar, 1 kg salt & 1 packet of farsan were distributed to Parcel Loaders and Private Safai Walas at Rajkot station. RPF/WR prepared and distributed 345 food packets from its own sources, as well as distributed 1470 food packets provided by NGOs. Under the guidance of homeopathic practitioner Dr. Parimal Parmar, 75 bottles of ARS ALB 30 medicine for prevention of corona infection, were distributed at Vishwamitri Railway colony and station premises.
