Appeals them to maintain patience operated 191 Shramik special trains till date
Western Railway has appealed all migrant labourers to avoid walking on railway tracks for their personal safety. According to a press release issued by WR CPRO Ravinder Bhakar, although regular Passenger train services remain suspended due to lockdown, but goods trains & parcel special trains continue to run to maintain supply of essential commodities accross the country.
Apart from freight trains, Shramik special trains have also been introduced for stranded migrants and many such trains are being operated over Western Rly jurisdiction along with other zonal railways. So far upto 10th May, 2020, total 191 shramik spl trains have already been operated by Western Rly & these are to be continued further. Through these 191 shramik special trains, more than 2.25 lakh migrants have travelled to their desired destinations.

Westen Rly has appealed to all migrants to have patience & don’t walk or stay for rest on railway tracks, as it is extremely dangerous & strictly prohibited under Railways Act. All interested migrant labourers may contact the nearest district authorities to apply, so that they may be sent to the places of their choice by trains.

It’s worth mentioning that with the requests from various quarters, mainly from State Governments to transport back the migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons from their states stranded at different places Indian Railways decided to operate “Shramik Special” trains with effect from 1st of May, 2020. As on 10th May 2020, Railways have run a total of 366 “Shramik Special” trains including 191 such special trains from W. Rly to various states across the country.
