With the lockdown needy and poor people who have been stranded or can’t afford food and also suffering from financial needs and basic food requirements. Western Rly & IRCTC have geared up their base kitchens in Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad stations for preparing distress free meals in large quantities for the poor and needy people. Western Railway’s Commercial, RPF & other departments too are making all best possible efforts to reach out to the needy persons and provide all assistance wherever possible with the unique motive that no one sleeps hungry.

According to a press release issued by WR CPRO Ravinder Bhakar, Western Railway along with IRCTC continues to serve poor and the needy people of the society by preparing community meals in its base kitchens at Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad. Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation on 4th April, 2020 provided 6000 and 3000 community Bhojans from its Mumbai Central and Ahmedabad Base Kitchens respectively with the Commercial and RPF Departments of Western Railway also helping in by using their force for distribution of these meals.

IRCTC has been showing its immense determination of Service with a Smile in its pursuance to serve the society in these difficult times of COVID 19 pandemic. IRCTC West Zone has determinedly served 6000 meals from its Base Kitchen at Mumbai Central to NGO’s spread over South and Central Mumbai like Giants Group, Nanhi Pari, Salaam Mumbai, Mc Aalms, Sainath Mahila Mandal, Akhil Bharatiya Samiti, Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, Angels Charitable Trust, Ghatkopar educational Welfare trust,
With its motive of “No One Sleeps Hungry”.

A jain girl aged 15 years of Mumbai named Arya Badama offered her salute to IRCTC for its good work of community feeding by making homemade chocolate cake for poor and needy persons. Giants Group Foundation distributed food packets to the needy and poor in collaboration with BMC to urchins who stranded with no food under the Foot Over Bridges of Mumbai.

In addition to this, the community meals were served to the needy through various NGOs, in co-ordination with the Commercial and RPF Departments of Western Railway in other divisions too. 4670 food packets were distributed among poor and needy people over Western Railway by different NGOs. On Ahmedabad division Western Railway distributed 3007 food packets to needy and poor people. On Bhavnagar division 200 food packets received from commercial staff and NGO Sarathi group were distributed to needy and poor people, whereas on Rajkot division 434 food packets were distributed to safailwalas and needy poor people in nearby station areas with the help of NGO, Shri Badrinath Education trust.

Similarly on Vadodara division 60 labourers at Nadiad goods shed with the help of NGO Jan Manav Sewa Pariwar Trust , Nadiad. 134 Ration packets were made available by MP of Vadodara for licensed porters & housekeeping staff of Vadodara station. Andheri Railway Colony Society in Mumbai have taken decision to provide daily lunch and dinner to on duty RPF, GRP, City Police and Andheri station staff as a complimentary gesture during the corona crisis.
