Western Railway has the status of pioneer in introduction of world’s 1st ever ladies special train in May, 1992 and of India’s 1st ever fully air-conditioned suburban train in December 2017. Now once again they set new records by achieving best ever performances in various fields during the concluded financial year 2019-20. Despite the tough times amidst the 21-day Coronavirus lockdown, it continues to break all barriers in achieving & becoming the best of the best.

of Departments & their teams for their marvelous achievements despite
several challenging situations.
According to
a press release issued by WR CPRO Ravinder Bhakar, in its journey, Western
Railway has achieved many milestones and the year 2019-20 was no exception.
There have been several landmark events recently, From initiating various green projects to
introducing the best & modern passenger facilities. This year has been an
eventful one and full of achievements for Western Railway.
Bhakar stated that the financial year 2019-20 has been a very successful year for W.Rly on various fronts. During this year, WR not only surpassed commercial earning targets by setting new records and breaking previous records, but also has been successful in achieving the first position in earnings from Non-Freight Revenue (Advertisements) of Rs. 91.71 cr.
It is also worth mentioning that Western Railway has retained its Number One position in Punctuality in the 2019-20 financial year. The Railway achieved punctuality of 92.93% which is beyond its own target of the year, that is 90%.
W.Rly also
achieved the Highest Coach Utilization with 530 KM per day per coach for
2019-20 amongst all Zonal Railways. On the other hand, Western Railway also
achieved big in coach utilization, increase in speed, electrification and
elimination of level crossings during the year.
In an
unprecedented effort, Western Railway has clocked distinction of best ever
achievement in major segments of Commercial earnings. It achieved the first
rank in Non-Freight Revenue by clocking in Rs. 91.71 crs (provisional) over
Indian Railways. This is 29.05% more than that the last financial year and an
all time high for Western Railway. Best Ticket Checking earnings were marked at
Rs. 135.51 cr which is 3.99% more than the last year. Western Railway also
marked an all time high Parking Earnings of Rs. 16.96 cr which is 7.58% more
than last year.
Apart from
registering a historical growth in earnings, Western Railway has secured the
first rank in Container loading over Indian Railways. The Railway achieved
21.68 MT loading in the year 2019-20 surpassing the previous best of 20.36 MT
in 2018-19. Western Railway has secure the second rank over Indian Railways in
Earnings/MTRs with Rs. 133.32 cr. The Railway also achieved its ever best
containers single day loading of 55 rakes on 27th August, 2019, surpassing the
previous best record of 50 rakes on 31st March, 2019.
Western
Railway also ranked first in POL loading and Fertilizer loading over Indian
Railways. It also proved its mettle by running the highest 3771 Double Stack
Containers in 2019-20 surpassing their previous best of 3497 trains in 2018-19.
The railway also ran the highest number of long haul trains summing to 1162
trains surpassing their previous best of 1015 trains in the financial year
2018-19. Western Railway has achieved highest speed of goods trains of 28.3
km/hr in year 2019-20 surpassing the previous best of 26.8 km/hr in year
2018-19.
The Rolling
Stock Workshops of Western Railway did exceptionally well to raise their
productivity levels to new highs. Consequently, the out-turns of POH of
Passenger Coaches, wagons, MEMUs and DEMUs set-up all time high records. This
was achieved in spite of days lost to lockdown due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Western
Railway is the first Railway to achieve zero Scrap status in all major workshops, stations & Sheds in Year
2019-20 under Mission Zero Scrap. In the financial year 2019-20, it marked the
highest scrap sale among all Railways and more than 26.84% of second highest
sale of Rs. 420 crs. WR sale is 12.36%
of total sale of all Railways in 2019-20.
In 2018-19,
WR sale was the ever highest of Indian Railways. This year also, sale of WR was
Rs. 533 cr till 23rd March, 2020. Subsequently, all the auctions of WR was
cancelled due to Coronavirus Pandemic otherwise last year sale could have been
surpassed easily. Western Railway is the first Railway which has achieved NIL status of inactive and surplus status in
Indian Railway since November 2019. At present, Inactive items are NIL &
Surplus items are NIL too.
The physical
Turn Over Ratio(TOR) of Western
Railway for the year 2019-20 is 15.44% which is third best in
Indian Railway in Inventory Management. It is also worth mentioning that
Western Railway is the first Railway to portray a Heritage Gallery of Old
Printing Press & allied Machines in
Mahalaxmi General Stores Depot.
