The world's oldest known person French nun Sister André died on Tuesday a the age of 118.
The city’s mayor, Hubert Falco, announced the news of her death on Twitter, writing that “it is with immense sadness and emotion that I learnt tonight of the passing of the world’s oldest person #SisterAndré.”
Lucile Randon took the name Sister Andre in 1944 when she became a nun.
She was born on Randon was born on February 11, 1904, the year New York opened its first subway. She grew up in a Protestant family in the southern town of Ales, France.
She became a Catholic and was baptised at the age of 26, and, fuelled by a desire to go further, she joined the Daughters of Charity order of nuns when she was 41.
She was assigned to a hospital in Vichy, France, where she worked for 31 years.
