Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian confirmed the incident as a terrorist attack. The body, believed to be of a non-local, has been taken to a hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Authorities have launched an investigation and are working to identify the victim.

This incident comes just days after Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first chief minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, marking the return of an elected government after six years of President's rule.

The NC-Congress alliance secured victory in the recent assembly elections, held after a decade-long gap, with the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) winning 42 seats and Congress securing six.

BJP made significant stride with 29 seats, while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) won three seats.

The People's Conference, CPI(M), and AAP won one seat each, and seven Independents were also victorious.

The three-phase elections, held after the abrogation of Article 370, concluded on October 8.

On Thursday, a day after taking oath, Abdullah chaired his first cabinet meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar. He previously served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2009 to 2014.
