Successful Rescue of Indian Volleyball Team Stranded Amid Violence in Nepal; Emotional Video Goes Viral

Amid ongoing violent protests in Nepal, the Indian Embassy has successfully rescued and repatriated the Indian volleyball team. This action was initiated after a heartfelt video by TV presenter Upasana Gill went viral on social media. Gill had traveled to Nepal to attend a volleyball league but got caught in the sudden outbreak of violence. In the video, she appealed to the Indian Embassy to actively ensure the safety of the team.

Upasana Gill made a video from Pokhara appealing for help. She said,
"My name is Upasana Gill, and I am sending this video to Praful Garg. I appeal to the Indian Embassy for help. Please, whoever can help, kindly do so. I am stranded in Pokhara, Nepal."
Gill also mentioned an attack on her hotel. She said,
"The hotel where I was staying was set on fire by rioters. All my belongings were burned. At that time, I was in the spa. They were chasing us with large sticks. I barely managed to escape with my life."
Her video proved effective, and the embassy immediately got in touch with the team and assisted them.

As soon as the video surfaced, the Indian Embassy took swift action and relocated the volleyball team to a safe house in Kathmandu. According to sources, most of the team members have already returned to India, and arrangements are being made to bring back the remaining players. Officials confirmed that the embassy is in constant contact with all team members and is closely monitoring their safety.

After the Nepalese government imposed a ban on social media, large numbers of youths began protesting. However, these demonstrations quickly evolved into a widespread public movement against corruption and nepotism. The situation deteriorated to the point where Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli had to resign. Protesters targeted government buildings and hotels from the capital Kathmandu to Pokhara, causing significant hardship for locals and tourists alike. Despite the change in government, violent protests are still ongoing.

The Indian Embassy has issued helpline numbers to assist other Indian nationals stranded in Nepal. A control room in Kathmandu is actively operational, providing emergency assistance. The embassy's efforts once again demonstrate that the Indian government's top priority is to ensure the safety and repatriation of Indian citizens during times of crisis abroad.
