Reports: Pakistan former PM Imran Khan likely to be arrested today

A day after two non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against him, Pakistan's ousted premier Imran Khan is likely to be arrested on Tuesday, said reports.

An Islamabad court issued the warrants after Khan failed to appear in courts in the Toshakhana case and for threatening a woman magistrate.

The court instructed the police to present him before the courts on March 18 and March 21, respectively.

Following this, a police party from Islamabad had arrived in Lahore on a special helicopter to arrest the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief.

However, the former cricketer had left his Zaman Park residence by then. He was then seen leading a rally of thousands of his supporters.

The Islamabad police will visit Zaman Park in the next 24 hours to arrest Khan, Pakistan's Geo News quoted party chairman Imran Khan.

It added that several decisions were taken during a meeting between Islamabad and Lahore's police officials, including extending total support to Islamabad police.

It will be ensured that the capital's cops reach Khan's Zaman Park residence with no hindrances.

In connection with the Toshakhana case, the capital police had arrived on March 5 in Lahore to arrest Khan but was told he was not at his Zaman Park residence. Following this the police had left the place empty-handed, reported sources.

Imran Khan had filed a plea seeking exemption from physically appearing before the judge. The former Prime Minister requested the court permission to join the proceedings virtually via video link.

His lawyer Intezar Haider Panjutha too said it was not safe for the 71-year-old politician to come to Islamabad amid security threats against him.

They added that they have filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking permission to appear virtually before the courts.

However, civil judge Rana Mujahid Rahim issued non-bailable arrest warrants over Khan's repeated non-appearance.
