A series of coordinated militant assaults across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa left at least five police personnel dead and eight others injured, according to official sources.
In Peshawar’s Hassan Khel area, militants attacked a police station and two checkpoints, killing one constable and injuring another. In Upper Dir, a Quick Response Force vehicle came under heavy gunfire in an ambush, resulting in the deaths of three policemen and injuries to eight more. The wounded were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, and a search operation was launched.
Another constable was killed in separate attacks on police checkpoints in Maidan, Lajbok, and Shadas areas of Lower Dir. In the Khyber district, armed assailants targeted a joint Frontier Corps-police post at Sakhi Pul but were repelled by return fire.
Similar incidents were reported in Nasir Bagh and Mattani (Peshawar), as well as Bannu, but were thwarted without casualties. In Charsadda, unknown attackers on motorcycles hurled a hand grenade at the Tarlandi checkpoint, which failed to explode.
Following the attacks, security was tightened across all police stations and checkpoints in the province. Personnel remain on high alert.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur condemned the violence, terming the assaults “cowardly acts” and reiterating the provincial government’s resolve to combat militancy.
