According to the Central Weather Bureau, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan on Monday evening. The tremor struck off the coast at 5.46 p.m. local time, with the epicentre located 56 kilometres east of Hualien County Hall, according to the meteorology service. The earthquake's focal depth was 19.4 kilometres.

"The shaking lasted for a good 20 seconds with the ground moving left and right," AFP quoted its reporter in Taipei as saying.

The earthquake struck 124 kilometres south-southeast of Taipei, Taiwan, at roughly 3.16 p.m. IST, according to India's National Center for Seismology.
