Records growth of 250% of UTS app users in just one year

Western Railway has made UTS on mobile app available for non suburban as well as suburban stations and robust growth of more than 250% has been recorded in the year 2019-20 (upto May) as compared to the previous corresponding period. The average passengers per day has massively increased from 55,000 in the year 2018-19 to approx.. 2 lakh passengers in 2019-20.

It is worth mentioning that more than 3.64 crore passengers have used the UTS mobile app all over Western Railway since November 2018 alone, where approx. 3.48 crore passengers have booked tickets through the mobile app over Mumbai Suburban line itself. However on entire Western Railway more than 9.62 lakh tickets were bought through the UTS app in May 2019 which marked the highest record earnings till date of Rs. 6.02 crores.

According to the press release by Ravinder Bhakar – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the main objective of introducing UTS app is to encourage digital ticketing mode and to promote self ticketing to ensure passengers can buy tickets without facing the ordeal of queues. With combined efforts of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Mumbai Division of Western Railway is also promoting Rupay, BHIM/UPI for purchasing Reserved and Unreserved tickets.

To promote easy ticketing options for passengers over Mumbai Suburban, the Mumbai Division of Western Railway has also developed Automatic Ticketing Zones at Andheri and Borivali stations. These special zones are well equipped with ATVMs for printing tickets and QR codes for paperless ticketing. Western Railway exhorts its valuable commuters to patronize the use of UTS Mobile Ticketing App and ATVM smart cards to avail the enhanced benefits attached with their use.

Western Railway has taken various steps to popularize the use of modern ticketing modes and will continue to achieve this important object. In this regard, various promotional campaigns are being organized at important railway stations of Mumbai Suburban by Western Railway.

Some of the Salient Features of UTS App:

  1. Easy to download from Google Play Store, iOS or Windows app store free of cost.
  2. All unreserved and season tickets can be booked.
  3. Simplified App with ‘Quick booking’ option.
  4. Options for both paperless and paper ticket (through ATVM or booking window) available.
  5. Dedicated Customer Care no.138.
  6. Ticket payments can be easily made through inbuilt “R-Wallet” or through Paytm, Mobikwik, Freecharge.
  7. “R-Wallet” can be easily recharged from all non suburban UTS booking windows as well as online on website
