Since the railways have been closed for a long time now, the porters are in bad shape as they are away from work and not earning to support their families. They are eagerly waiting for the trains to start running and their lives will get back to the track again.

Realising their plight in the difficult times of lockdown, the food committee under the directions of police commissioner and District Collector decided to extend help to them. They decide to distribute 180 grocery kits to the railway porters.

As part of this, Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut and Collector Shalini Agarwal distributed food kits to 5 porters at the railway station as a token of goodwill from the administration. The remaining 175 kits will be distributed to all the beneficiaries in 2 days by the Food Committee.

The porters presently helping the administration in managing the travelling of the migrant labourers to various parts of the country from Vadodara. Police Commissioner expressed his happiness regarding their help and said this small help is not big against their efforts and appreciate their courage.

Collector Shalini Agarwal said, the ration kits will be very useful for their families. She applauded their services day and night for helping the administration in distributing food packets and others to the migrant workers.

Porter Mukadam Gajanand, Raju Bhai Thakor, Ratan Singh said, if the railway runs so as their employment and if it is closed then there is no work for them. During such difficult times this help will be very useful for them. Earlier railways also helped with food items. Now they are waiting for the railways to back on track again.

Khyati Patel, deputy collector and head of the food committee said, the kit included groceries needed for everday cooking.
