Indian Railways is set to enhance rail connectivity in western India with the likely introduction of the Vande Bharat Express on the Udaipur–Ahmedabad route.

Following the successful electrification of the Udaipur–Ahmedabad rail track, the Railway Board has initiated a proposal to launch this semi-high-speed train, aiming to improve travel comfort and reduce journey time between Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Based on verbal instructions from the Railway Board, Western Railway Mumbai has already prepared an operational plan for the new service.

If approvals and final clearances proceed as expected, the Vande Bharat Express could begin operations as early as February, marking another addition to India’s growing network of modern trains.

As per the proposed schedule, the train will depart from Udaipur City at 6:10 am on six days a week—Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It is expected to reach Asarwa Junction in Ahmedabad at 10:25 am, offering a swift and convenient morning connection between the two cities.

On the return journey, the Vande Bharat Express will leave Asarwa Junction at 5:45 pm and arrive back in Udaipur at 10:00 pm. This timing is designed to suit both business and leisure travellers, enabling same-day return options with minimal fatigue.

The proposed rake composition includes eight Chair Car coaches, ensuring a comfortable, air-conditioned travel experience with modern onboard amenities.

In line with the Vande Bharat model, the train is expected to offer faster acceleration, smoother rides, and improved passenger facilities compared to conventional express trains.

The route plan includes only one intermediate stop at Himmatnagar, with no halt at Dungarpur.

This limited-stop strategy is intended to maintain higher average speeds and reduce overall travel time, further strengthening rail connectivity between Udaipur and Ahmedabad.
