The much-awaited Noida International Airport at Jewar is set to be inaugurated on October 30, 2025, with commercial flight operations expected to commence within 45 days of the launch. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu confirmed the date during the Yatri Sewa Diwas event at Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, stating that the airport’s development is in its final phase, and airlines are ready to operate from the new hub.
Spread over 1,334 hectares, Jewar Airport is poised to become the second full-fledged commercial airport in the NCR after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The first phase will include a single runway and a terminal capable of handling 12 million passengers annually, with eventual plans to scale up to 70 million passengers across four phases. Authorities anticipate handling around 6 million passengers in the first year alone.

Minister Naidu emphasized the dual role the airport will play—not only boosting civil aviation connectivity but also serving as a major cargo hub for North India. Core construction is nearly complete, including the 3,900-metre runway, Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, and terminal structure. Interior works such as seating, lighting, aerobridges, baggage systems, and e-gates are in the final stages. Full readiness is expected by October, pending the DGCA’s aerodrome license.
The airport's concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), confirmed infrastructure readiness. IndiGo will be the launch carrier, having conducted validation flights in December 2024. Akasa Air has also committed to establishing a strong network from Jewar. Destinations like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata are expected in the initial flight schedule.
The project has seen multiple delays—from the original target of September 2024 to mid-2025. To push progress, the Uttar Pradesh government imposed a ₹10 lakh per day penalty on the concessionaire starting January 2025. Despite setbacks, the project is now back on track.
Naidu also announced several passenger-centric improvements for airports nationwide, including free Wi-Fi, library facilities, and dedicated kids’ zones within the next few months. Meanwhile, Hindon Airport, which now connects to 16 cities, will see terminal expansion to meet increasing demand.
In its first phase, Jewar Airport will connect at least 10 major cities, significantly boosting passenger movement, cargo handling, and regional connectivity across the NCR and beyond.
