Good news awaits Noida metro passengers. The Aqua Line of Noida Metro to Greater Noida West in Uttar Pradesh is ready for expansion.

The project, which will be carried out in two phases, is soon to be submitted to the Public Investment Board (PIB) for approval.

Once completed, it will provide a major relief to Noida and Greater Noida commuters, benefiting more than 4 lakh people directly.

The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has confirmed the expansion plan from Sector 61 to Knowledge Park V, adding 11 new stations to the already existing network.

At present, the Aqua Line runs from Sector-51 to the Greater Noida Depot. Preparations are already underway to extend it further to Sector-142. In the first phase, the Metro line will be extended from Sector-51 to Sector-2.

Meanwhile, the expansion for the second phase will be from Greater Noida Sector-2 to Greater Noida Sector-5.

As per NMRC, the new initiative aims to reduce congestion, enhance last-mile connectivity, and aid in the development of residential, commercial and institutional hubs across Noida Extension.

This proposed Metro line will cover a distance of 17.435 km. Of the 11 stations, three stations spread across 3.3 km will fall in Noida, while the remaining eight stations with a 14.1 km distance will be in Greater Noida.

The project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 2,991 crore, with Noida contributing 33 per cent and Greater Noida bearing 67 per cent of the expense.

Additionally, funding will come from GIA and GeoUPs. As many as 1.23 lakh passengers are expected to use this corridor daily once it's completed.
