Travel from Mumbai to the scenic Konkan coast is set to become faster and more convenient with the launch of a new roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry service starting September 1. The service will operate daily from Bhaucha Dhakka Terminal in Mumbai, departing at 6:30 AM, and will connect to Jaigarh in Ratnagiri in just 3–4 hours and Vijaydurg in Sindhudurg in about 5–6 hours. This dramatically cuts the road travel time, which usually takes nearly double that duration.

The Ro-Ro ferry is equipped to carry both passengers and vehicles, offering a seamless travel experience for those heading to the Konkan region. With a capacity of 50 four-wheelers and 30 two-wheelers, the ferry is expected to ease congestion on the roads, especially during peak travel seasons like Ganesh Chaturthi.

The launch was initially planned ahead of the festival but faced delays due to unfavorable weather. Now, with improved conditions and a five-day test run underway, the service is ready to set sail.

There are four ticket categories available for passengers: Economy Class at ₹2,500 per person, Premium Economy at ₹4,000, Business Class at ₹7,500, and First Class at ₹9,000.

In addition, vehicle charges are priced at ₹6,000 for a car, ₹1,000 for a two-wheeler, and ₹600 for a bicycle. These options make the ferry accessible for both budget and premium travelers, offering flexibility and comfort.

Shipping Minister Nitesh Rane, who recently inspected the ferry, called it “a matter of pride for Konkan.” He emphasized the importance of improved coastal connectivity and hinted at further expansion plans.

Following the successful Mumbai–Mandwa Ro-Ro ferry, which began operations in March 2020, the government now aims to connect more destinations across the Konkan coast, including Shrivardhan and Mandwa, enhancing tourism and regional development.
