Maharashtra’s first glass bridge opens over Napne waterfall in Sindhudurg

In a remarkable push to boost eco-tourism in Maharashtra’s scenic Konkan region, the state’s first glass bridge has opened to the public.

Suspended over the breathtaking Napne Waterfall near Vaibhavwadi in Sindhudurg, this newly unveiled structure offers a thrilling experience with panoramic views of cascading water and lush green hills below.

Inaugurated on July 22, 2025, the glass bridge is part of the Sindhuratna tourism scheme, aimed at promoting lesser-known destinations across the state.

Local MLA Nitesh Rane, who officiated the inauguration, dedicated the project to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, referring to him as "Vikas Purush" on social media.

The bridge reflects a broader commitment by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to create infrastructure that honours both natural heritage and community upliftment.

Poised above the perennial Napne Waterfall near Vaibhavwadi, the Napne Glass Bridge is not only the first of its kind in Maharashtra but also a compelling symbol of the region’s push towards sustainable, experience-based tourism.

Constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 99.63 lakh, the structure measures 22 metres in length and 2 metres in width, crafted from high-strength transparent glass that creates the exhilarating illusion of walking on air.

Designed with a fusion of aesthetic appeal and structural integrity, the bridge features vibrant arch-style railings, wooden-textured stairways, and an arresting butterfly sculpture at the entrance—an instant draw for photo-seekers.

Complementing the bridge’s visual drama is a surrounding display of rock art and wildlife-themed murals, merging environmental education with outdoor recreation.

Set against the backdrop of dense Konkan forests, Napne Waterfall is among the few year-round waterfalls in the region.

Located near Nadhavade village and just a short distance from the Kolhapur–Talere National Highway, the site is celebrated for its biodiversity—home to hornbills, butterflies, and an abundance of endemic flora. With its lush surroundings and photographic potential, it attracts birdwatchers, trekkers, and quiet nature lovers alike.

While the terrain around the waterfall can be treacherous during monsoons, the newly constructed bridge offers a secure vantage point to appreciate the roaring cascade, even during the rainy season. This makes it a rare monsoon-accessible destination in an otherwise challenging landscape.
