India's interest in Japan is clearly growing. Compared to the same period last year, Agoda saw a significant 68 per cent increase in Indian customers' travel-related searches for Japan between May 15 and August 15, 2025.
It is a clear indication that Indian tourists are becoming increasingly interested in Japan.
Gone are the days when Tokyo stood alone as the go-to destination for tourists. Although interest in Japan's capital has increased by 59 per cent, there is an odd trend taking place.
Osaka is attracting a lot of attention, as evidenced by the astounding 158 per cent increase in queries. Kyoto, the city of temples and traditions, is still enticing, as seen by its stunning 53 per cent increase in interest, as per reports.
These numbers reflect a change in the collective mindset of Indian tourists, who are drawn to Japan's more tranquil, culturally diverse areas as well as its busy urban life.
Agoda research indicates that interest in lesser-known locations is expanding outside of the major towns.
The following destinations have seen notable increases year over year: Fujikawaguchiko (up 36 per cent), Okinawa (up 47per cent), Hakone (up 46per cent), Sapporo (up 18per cent), Yokohama (up 20per cent), Fukuoka (up 14per cent), and Nagoya (up 41per cent), the latter replaced Narita and made his debut appearance on the list this year.
Sapporo entices with its unique regional flavour, Okinawa and Fukuoka offer maritime and cultural experiences, and Fujikawaguchiko and Hakone appeal to those seeking alpine landscapes and hot springs.
