With over 500 million active users, Telegram is one of the most popular messaging platforms in the world.

Where WhatsApp prioritises ease of use, Telegram has taken a different approach in that it’s absolutely packed with features.

Now with a new update that introduces a new Power Saving Mode among other things, the features list has gotten lengthier than ever.

While Telegram has let users disable some animations within the app with the Reduce motion setting, it’s now allowing users to do so to extend battery life with the new Power Saving Mode.

The new mode can be set to automatically turn on when the device battery reaches a certain percentage. iOS users can also use the mode to limit background updates.

Users can turn on Power Saving mode or tweak settings for autoplay, animations, and effects from Settings > Power Saving.

Telegram has let users change the playback speed for videos, voice messages, and podcasts for ages now, but those controls have gotten more granular with this update. Users can now choose any speed between 0.2x–2.5x.

Telegram lets users control who’s allowed to add them to groups. If a user invites someone who restricts this, the invite can now be sent as a link in the DM.

Read receipts in groups with fewer than 100 members now show the exact time any user’s messages were read by each member.

iOS users can mark all chats in a folder as read with one tap. Folders can be used to quickly find the right chat when forwarding messages.

This improvement is also coming to the Android app in one of the next updates.
