Sony slashes price of PlayStation 5 by whopping Rs 13,000 after PS5 Slim launch in India

In a rare and unprecedented move, Sony has slashed the price of its PlayStation 5 game console in India by a whopping Rs 13,000.

The price drop comes just days after the launch of the PS5 Slim in India.

Since the slim will be its go-to flagship console going forward, it is quite possible that, this is a “clearance” sale to clear out the existing inventory.

But whatever the case be, we can’t help but point out that it’s a deal of a lifetime and if you’ve been holding up, you might want to consider it now.

Sony says the price cut is part of a a limited period, limited quantity “Summer Promo” offer on the CFI -1208A01R model which is essentially the original PS5 “standard” standalone edition with disc drive.

The offer will be available starting from April 10 through April 30, or until stocks last, across Amazon, Blinkit, Croma, Flipkart, Reliance, Sony Center, Vijay Sales and other participating retailers.

The console is currently listed for Rs 54,990 on the Sony Centre website (ShopatSC) which coincidentally is also the price of the new PS5 Slim disc edition.

The company notes that the promo offer does not include the PlayStation5 Slim.

The PS5 Slim is the mid-cycle refresh of Sony’s flagship PlayStation 5 console.

As the name suggests, it’s a relatively scaled down version, with up to 30 percent smaller footprint, though the underlying hardware remained unchanged so technically it’s just as powerful.

The slim comes with a couple of more quality of life improvements including 1TB storage and two USB Type-C ports.

Like the original, the PS5 Slim, too, is available with disc drive and digital avatars.

Going by convention, Sony is expected to phase out the original PS5 once the inventory is closed after which the slim would be its main console for all intents and purposes.
