A day after he rolled out $8 subscription scheme that includes the blue tick verification, entrepreneur Elon Musk has threatened to permanently suspend any account on the social media platform that impersonates another.

Twitter had earlier issued warnings before suspensions, but with the policy change in blue check verifications, the platform has decided to do away with such warnings.

In fact, any name change at all would compel the temporary loss of a verified checkmark, Musk added.

This comes as some changed their display names on the microblogging platform into 'Elon Musk.' Comedian Kathy Griffin had her account suspended Sunday after she switched her screen name to Musk.

Actor Valerie Bertinelli too similarly appropriated Musk's screen before tweeting in support of Democratic candidates but soon switched back to her true name.

Musk also tweeted that his mission was to make Twitter "by far the most accurate source of information about the world."

Meanwhile, there are reports that Twitter is now reaching out to dozens of employees who lost their jobs and asking them to return.

This comes just a day after the website sacked half its 7,500 work force.

According to sources, some of those who are being asked to return were laid off by mistake.

Twitter recently laid off 50 per cent of its employees, including employees on the trust and safety team, the company's head of safety and integrity Yoel Roth said in a tweet earlier this week.

Musk too had defended his move, claiming he had no choice but to cut jobs when the company is losing over $4M/day.

He said employees who lost their jobs were offered three months' pay as severance.
