Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro could get a major upgrade in charging technology, with reports suggesting that the company is testing wireless reverse charging for the device.
According to sources, this new feature would enable the iPhone 17 Pro to wirelessly charge other Apple devices like AirPods or the Apple Watch.
The leaker claims that Apple is experimenting with a 7.5W wireless reverse charging capability for these models.
Reverse wireless charging has been a long-rumoured feature for iPhones, and Apple introduced a limited version of it with the release of the MagSafe Battery Pack in 2021.
When attached to a charging iPhone, the device could power the battery pack, marking the first instance of an iPhone delivering power to an accessory.
However, Apple discontinued the MagSafe Battery Pack in 2023 with the launch of the iPhone 15 series, which switched to USB-C.
The iPhone 15 models allow for reverse charging through the USB-C port at up to 4.5W, but full wireless reverse charging hasn’t made a return since the MagSafe Battery Pack was phased out.
While Apple is reportedly testing this feature for the iPhone 17 Pro, the leak does not confirm whether it will be included when the phone is officially launched, which is expected in September 2025.
If the feature makes it to the final version of the iPhone 17 Pro, it will be a big upgrade in the wireless charging area because this will offer convenience to users who own multiple Apple devices.
