South Western Air Command observed the Blood Donors’ day on 14 Jun 2019, in all its stations spread over the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Blood donation was carried out based on the specific requirement as expressed by the hospitals and blood banks in their region.

Motivational talks highlighting the capability of donated blood in saving lives and encouraging personnel and family to enlist themselves as voluntary blood donors were held though poster and slogan competitions.

Over two thousand five hundred personnel including families registered as volunteer blood donors across the Air Force stations of SWAC. This panel will be helpful in emergency situations arising during defence operations, mass disasters and medical requirements. Air Marshal HS Arora, AVSM ADC Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command, appreciated Air Warriors and families for enlisting in the volunteer blood donors’ panel.

14 June is worldwide observed as ‘International Blood Donors Day’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the presence of blood groups in 1901. The theme for blood donor day 2019 is ‘Blood Donation and Universal Access to Safe Blood Transfusion’.
