On the penultimate day of the Tokyo Olympics today, Indian fans are rooting for Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, Golfer Aditi Ashok, and Wrestler Bajrang Punia who have kept the country's medal hopes alive. Today, India has three different opportunities to increase its medal haul.
Golfer Aditi Ashok has turned out to be a surprise medal contender at the Olympic Games. She along with compatriot Diksha Dagar are in action in the fourth and final round of the Women's Individual Stroke Play event. Aditi has kept herself intact in medal contention after three impressive rounds of play. At the end of day's play yesterday, she is on the 2nd position in overall standings behind Nelly Korda of the USA. Diksha remains tied at 51st place.
Olympic debutant Neeraj Chopra will be featured in Men's Javelin Throw Final in this afternoon. Neeraj gave a stellar performance in the qualification round after topping the overall standings with a massive 86.65 meters throw. He easily eclipsed the qualifying mark of 83.50 meters in his first attempt.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia will also be competing for the bronze medal today after losing the semi-finals yesterday to Azerbaijan's Haji Aliyev, 5-12 in the 65-kilogram category.
