Indian cricketer Mithali Raj on Wednesday announced her retirement from all forms of international cricket.

Mithali holds a slew of records, including the longest career, highest career batting average and most matches as ODI captain.

Mithali is India's highest run scorer and was captain of the ODI and Test sides.

Mithali ends her ODI career as the woman with the most runs. 

She scored 7,805 runs in 232 matches from 1999 to 2022 at an average of 50.68, scoring seven 100s and 64 fifties.

She was first appointed captain at the age of 22.

Mithali posted a message on Twitter noting that her "last 23 years" as a cricketer had been "the most fulfilling, challenging and enjoyable years" of her life.

Mithali wrote she was leaving the Indian team in the "capable hands of some very talented young players". She thanked BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah for his support.
