In the Chess Olympiad 2024, the Indian teams in both the open and women’s sections achieved impressive 3.5-0.5 victories in the fourth round held in Budapest yesterday.

In the open section, the Indian team defeated Serbia, while the women’s team triumphed over France.

In the women’s team, Harika Dronavalli on board one defeated Deimante Cornette.

On board two, R. Vaishali was held to a draw by Sophie Milliet. Meanwhile, on board three, Divya Deshmukh secured her fourth win of the Olympiad against Mitra Hejazipour. Earlier, Taina Sachdev had defeated Natacha Benmesbah.

The women’s team will face Kazakhstan in the fifth round today. In the open section, Arjun Erigaisi also maintained a perfect record with his fourth consecutive victory in this olympiad, this time against Aleksandar Indjic.

Meanwhile, World Championship challenger D. Gukesh defeated Alexandr Predke, and Vidit Gujrathi won against Ivic Velimir. R Praggnanandhaa was held to a draw by Alexey Sarana.

The Indian team in the open section will face Azerbaijan in the fifth round today. Seven rounds remain in the Olympiad.
