CEO of International Cricket Council (ICC) Geoff Allardice met Sri Lankan Minister of Sports Harin Fernando today, during which a detailed discussion was held on the future of Sri Lanka Cricket.
Taking to social media platform, Mr. Fernando said that a constructive discussion took place with the ICC CEO, which also focused on the way forward for Sri Lanka Cricket.
According to Sports Ministry sources, the ICC CEO is also expected to meet President Ranil Wickremesinghe later today.
In November last year, former Sri Lanka Sports minister Roshan Ranasinghe had dissolved the island nation’s cricketing board and appointed an interim committee to oversee the cricket there after a dismal performance of the Sri Lanka team in the 2023 World Cup.
The ICC Board had suspended Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership of the ICC thereafter citing government interference in the governance, regulation and administration of cricket there.
The ICC had added that the suspension would continue till the interim committee appointed by the Sports minister remains in force.
The government had to intervene in the crisis and replaced Mr. Ranasinghe as the sports minister giving the charge of the ministry to Harin Fernando. Mr. Fernando had issued a gazette last month to revoke the decision to appoint the interim committee.
