Indian Women's Hockey team began their debut campaign in the FIH Pro League with a resounding 7-1 win over China at Muscat in Oman yesterday.
Navneet Kaur opened the scoresheet of the match by scoring India's first goal of the night, five minutes into the game. With a close-range finish by Neha in the 12th minute, India finished the first half on 2-0 lead.
The Indian side's victory was sealed by two goals from Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam in the 47th and 52nd minutes and one goal each by Navneet Kaur in the 5th mintue, Neha in 12th, Vandana Katariya in 40th, Sharmila Devi in 48th while Gurjit Kaur in the 50th minute. Deng Xue scored the solitary goal for China in the 43rd minute.
Sharmila Devi was adjudged as Player of the Match.
For Goalkeeper Savita Punia led Indian Women's team, this was their first match in the FIH Hockey Pro League, following the withdrawal of Australia and New Zealand from the competition because of COVID-related travel restrictions.
India will take on China again today. The match will begin at 4:30 PM (Indian Time).
