New Update
asia cup 2025 final

Despite winning the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan in thrilling fashion, Team India is yet to receive the winner’s trophy — sparking a major controversy. The situation took a dramatic turn after allegations surfaced that ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi took the Asia Cup trophy and medals to his hotel room, instead of handing them over to the rightful winners.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken strong objection to this and has demanded that the trophy be immediately sent to India, asserting that the victorious team is entitled to it.

India Clinch Ninth Asia Cup Title

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets on Sunday to lift the Asia Cup title for a record ninth time, and for the second time in T20 format. Chasing 147, India sealed the win with two balls to spare.

Tilak Varma played a match-winning knock of 69 off 53 balls*, while Shivam Dube contributed 33 off 22, with the duo putting on a crucial 60-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Bowling first, India bundled out Pakistan for 146. Kuldeep Yadav led the bowling attack with a sensational 4/30, supported by Varun Chakaravarthy (2/30), Axar Patel (2/26), and Jasprit Bumrah (2/25).

Despite a solid start from Pakistan openers Sahibzada Farhan (57 off 38) and Fakhar Zaman (46 off 35) — who put on 84 runs in under 10 overs — the batting lineup collapsed dramatically, losing 9 wickets for just 33 runs.

India Refuses to Accept Trophy from Mohsin Naqvi

In a rare and bold move, the Indian team refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from ACC President and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after the final. The situation led to a standoff, with Naqvi left waiting on stage as Team India declined to participate in the formal presentation ceremony.

Responding to the controversy, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia released an official statement explaining the team’s decision:

“India is currently in a conflict-like situation with a neighboring country. It would not be appropriate for us to accept the trophy from a representative of that country. Hence, we declined to take the trophy from Mr. Naqvi.”

Saikia further criticized Naqvi’s reported act of taking the trophy and medals to his hotel room:

“This doesn’t mean the person has the right to take the trophy and medals that rightfully belong to the Indian team into his hotel room. That is completely unacceptable. We expect the trophy and medals to be sent to India at the earliest.”

He added, “This is about upholding a basic level of decency and ethics. We are officially lodging a protest against the behavior displayed by Mr. Naqvi during the award ceremony.”

What’s Next?

The BCCI has made it clear that the matter is far from over and that appropriate steps will be taken to ensure the trophy and medals are returned. Meanwhile, the Indian team's decision has ignited debate across sporting and diplomatic circles, adding an unexpected postscript to what was otherwise a historic win on the field.
