On the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, NCC Group HQ, Baroda under the aegis of NCC Directorate Gujarat, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Diu & Daman undertook the “Samudrika” Sea Sailing Expedition from Khambhat to Dandi. This expedition was jointly flagged off by Brigadier Amit, NCC Group Commander and Shri Mayur Rawal, MLA Anand District.

The sailing team comprises of 02 officers and 65 NCC cadets, led by Lieutenant Commander KSV Koushik, Officer Commanding No. 02 Gujarat Naval Unit NCC, Vadodara and Lieutenant Commander Vishal Nair, Officer Commanding No. 9 Gujarat Naval Unit NCC, Navsari. They will be sailing 215 kilometers over ten days covering Khambhat, Ishanpur, Nada, Dahej, Aliabet, Kantiyajal, Olpad Dandi, Suvali, Dumas, Borsi and finally culminating at the “National Salt Satyagraha Memorial”, Dandi on 02 Oct 2019.

The expedition will be flagged in at Dandi by Major General Roy Joseph, Additional Director General NCC, Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Diu and Daman.

The expedition intends to create awareness and sensitise the importance of coastal security among the local population. In addition, they shall also highlight certain aspects of Social Service and Community Development by organizing lecturettes and Nukkad Nataks. Importance of Gandhian principles will be emphasized to the youth.

Above exposure of young cadets to challenges and hazards of sea will also aid in promoting the sense of adventure among other cadets.
