Rear Admiral Puruvir Das, Nau Sena Medal
assumes charge of Flag Officer Commanding Gujarat Naval Area. He took over the reins of Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area from Rear Admiral Sanjay Roye, Vishisht Sena Medal as its fourth Flag Officer Commanding at a ceremonial parade held at HQs Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area on 10 Feb 20.



The Navy gives very high priority to the frontline state of Gujarat due to its strategic location, vast coastline and economic importance for India. The FOGNA is responsible to the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command for all Naval operations in Gujarat, Daman and Diu Naval Area.

Rear Admiral Puruvir Das NM is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy Khadakvasla, Naval War College Goa, Kings College London and National Defence College New Delhi. He is a recipient of Chief of the Naval Staff Gold Medal as Midshipman, the Sword of Honour as a Sub Lieutenant and the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command Gold Medal for a research paper and the Nau Sena Medal for dedication to duty.

In a career spanning 30 years, he has held numerous specialist, staff and operational appointments, both afloat and ashore. The officer has commanded Indian Naval ships Kozhikode, Kora, Shivalik and the aircraft carrier Vikramaditya.

Prior to the present appointment, he held the post of Commanding Officer INS Vikramaditya, India’s only aircraft carrier.
