Two youths from Vadodara bring laurels to the city after they received national youth icon awards for their work. As the award says, The national youth Icon award is the premire and highest youth award in India for exellence in development work aim to raise the profile of young people and highlight the contribution they are making towards developing a fairer, sustainable, peaceful and prosperous future for the nation.

The award ceremony was part of World youth summit in which there were many international delegrates and speakers from various backgrounds. Youth from all over the world who takes leadership in their fields and contribute to the society are given this award by IYC. This year two youth from Gujarat got this award consists of Prarthi Shah and Umang Modi both are from Vadodara. The award was given by global president of IYC Jayanta Patra.

About Prarthi Shah :

Prarthi Shah is founder of an environmental group Baroda Strickers. Her dream to make an environmental group became a reality in 2011. Before that, she worked on mangroves for 6 years as her personal research in school time and she got Nanubhai Amin Memorial award for her research Coastal Area Management Project (CAMP) in 2011.

She has got several recognitions for her contribution in the field of Environment like being declared as Brand Ambassador of Combating Environmental Degradation project by Gujarat Ecology Commission in 2012, Salaam Vadodara award in 2017 by Gandevikar Jewellers.Apart from this she has contributed in the cause of nature conservation and social change by utilising her photographic and musical skills by sharing the beautiful natural heritage of India and writing and singing the earth son Tu sambhal jaa.

She has also represented India in Iskele Deniz international music Festival in Cyprus in 2014 and got music award as Team India.

In her formal education Prarthi has a bachelor’s degree in B.Sc Geography from Maharaja Sayajirao University (2015), Vadodara and masters degree in Heritage Management from Ahmedabad University, Ahmedabad (2017). She was previously associated with UNESCO Category 2 centre for Natural world Heritage sites of Asia pacific, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun as World Heritage Assistant. Now she has come back in Gujarat with larger plans in her mind for Rural Gujarat and has been given the responsibility as a consultant of Gujarat for conducting environment awareness and education programs.

She has been educating the students of various schools and colleges by giving lectures on nature conservation, wildlife, and sustainable lifestyles. She has been
invited by various set of institutions and organizations to take workshops on these topics. She is also working in Dandi salt march heritage management cell as heritage manager in Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad.

As a heritage enthusiast she also runs her personal campaign named ‘Heritage Selfie Series’. She takes selfie with the monument, site or particular thing which is considered as heritage and gives information about it in a short paragraph to raise awareness about the site and telling people why that particular site is important locally, nationally or internationally. This campaign has received a huge positive response and people have joined the initiative by taking photos and putting up on their social media to support the campaign. Prarthi has covered almost 50 important heritage sites till now and it is still counting in her list. In future she wishes to her organization to build a strong team which works towards building a cleaner, Greener and healthier nation with well preserved heritage.

A Strong network of young leaders for a better future. Engagement of citizens, taking initiatives for solving issues in their own surroundings. Network of responsible youth working, leading and addressing challenges in different cities of India, A fresh approach of getting close to nature and adapting cleaner, greener and healthier lifestyle.

About Umang Modi:

Currently working as Assistant Professor Faculty of Law and Coordinator for One Year Diploma in Political Leadership and Governance Institute of Leadership and Governance The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He has one year working experience of Government Sector as Legal Consultant in Transport Department Government of Uttar Pradesh and also worked as Legislative Assistant to Member of Parliament. He is also Member of World Health Organization Legal Development Program on Road Safety.

As Road Safety Advocate he organised numerous workshops, seminars, debates and discussion in various parts of country on road safety. As adviser in government department as well as legislative assistant in parliament he contributed in shaping and implementing various policies. He was selected as Youth Member of Parliament of Global Energy Parliament 2016 at Prime Minister’s House Sri Lanka and presented on the topic of “Habitat Harmony”. He was also selected for Study Visit at Secretariat of European Parliament Luxembourg for One month Study on the topic of EU- India Relations.

Recently he participated as delegate in 4th Indian Ocean Conference organised by India Foundation and Government of Maldives. As far academic background is concern he did LL.M from National Law School of India University, Bangalore.
