Cabinet approves ₹1,866-crore productivity-linked bonus ahead of Diwali

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, approved payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) of 78 days for ₹1865.68 crore to over 10 lakh non-gazetted railway employees.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, approved payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) of 78 days for 1865.68 crore to over 10 lakh non-gazetted railway employees.

The PLB payment to all eligible railway employees is made each year before the Durga Puja holidays.

Railway employees eligible for the productivity-linked bonus will get up to 17,951, equal to 78 days of wages, as per the official statement.

This year, the PLB will be paid to 10,91,146 railway employees.

The bonus will be paid to various categories, of railway staff including:

  • Track maintainers
  • Loco Pilots
  • Train Managers (Guard)
  • Station Masters
  • Supervisors
  • Technicians
  • Technician Helpers
  • Pointsman
  • Ministerial Staff
  • Group ‘C’ staff.

Last year, the Union Cabinet had approved payment of a productivity-linked bonus for over 11.72 lakh railway employees in October.

The Cabinet authorised a productivity-linked incentive equal to 78 days' salary for railway staff, totalling to 2,029 crore.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet also approved 69,725 crore package for shipbuilding and maritime sector development, and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research scheme.

  • The Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme (SBFAS), which is a part of the package, will be extended until March 31, 2036, with a total fund of 24,736 crore. The scheme's goal is to encourage shipbuilding in India. Additionally, a National Shipbuilding Mission will be set up to manage all related initiatives.
  • The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research scheme was approved with a total outlay of Rs.2277.397 crore. Implemented by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the scheme will cover all R&D institutions, national laboratories, Institutes of National Importance, Institutes of Eminence, and Universities across the country.
