Formation of plasma donation cell at Sayaji and Gotri Hospitals appointment of a nodal officer

If blood plasma is donated after the prescribed time by the patients who have been cured after the treatment of Covid 19, it becomes useful in the treatment and life saving of other patients suffering from the disease. In view of that OSD Dr. Vinod Rao is putting efforts to encourage voluntary plasma donation in Vadodara city and district.

As part of this, an order has been issued on Saturday to set up a special plasma donation cell at Sayaji and GMERS, Gotri Hospitals and appoint nodal officers for its operation under the provisions of the law. These nodal officers will have to report their activities to the Municipal Commissioner, Vadodara and officer on special duty and Secretary of Education.

By the above order, Dr. Himanshu Ranani, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Sayaji Hospital and Medical College is appointed for the plasma donation cell of Sayaji Hospital and Prof. Dr. Chirag Rathore, Associate Professor, Department of medicine at GMERS hospital and Medical college is appointed for the Gotri hospital.

They will have to voluntarily prepare list of discharged Corona patients who have been deemed fit for plasma donation as per the prescribed criteria give proper guidance to them about the plasma donation.

Plasma can be donated by individuals who have recovered from Covid 19 treatment who are 18 to 60 years of age and weigh more than 55 kilograms. This nodal officer will make a list of such plasma donors eligible to donate. The names of those who are prohibited from donating plasma in this manner for medical reasons will be excluded from the list. And those who are eligible for plasma donation according to these criteria they will try to prepare them to donate plasma 28 days after the disease is cured and coordinate properly with authorized blood banks to receive plasma donation within 15 days as required by the blood bank.

Physicians from the city and district primary health centers have been instructed to provide appropriate assistance in plasma donation for patients in their area.
