    15-Day Comprehensive French Language Course offered on online platform by I2IM amidst Lockdown

    Considering the circumstances of lockdown as a window of opportunity for self-development, the teachers of CHARUSAT University have kept their spirit of learning high, with the bells on. During this period, Academy of English, National, and Foreign Languages (AENFL) run by Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at Indukaka Ipcowala Institute of Management (I2IM), CHARUSAT, had organised a 15-DAY Comprehensive French Language training program on Course – Ça y est, let’s learn French for the CHARUSAT faculty members during the months of March and April.

    Faculty Members from multiple disciplines like Engineering, Pharmacy, Management studies, Applied Sciences, Medical Sciences, Management Studies participated actively during the workshop. In this 30-hour French Beginner’s Course, the participants learnt basic grammar, phonetic, linguistic, cultural and communicative aspects of French Language in the form of Self-introduction, greetings, short messages, daily usage conversations, talking about profession and activities / hobbies, asking questions to seek information, answer simple questions, write a postcard, fill out preliminary forms, read and give directions, able to initiate communication and express self during such conversations with the help of basic vocabulary.

    The course was unfurled through direct and communicative teaching through online platform, audio-video presentation, role play, discussions and assignments. The online evaluation was also done in the continuous mode as well as at the end of the course. On the successful completion of the course, the participants were given the certificates.

    “The University has been offering French Language course under its Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to the students, but here the efforts were made to motivate faculty members to learn and speak French language and at the same time to put to best use the lockdown time off campus by discovering French culture”, said by Dr. Govind Dave, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies & Principal, I2IM.

    The institute is also planning to offer courses on German, Chinese, and Spanish languages as a credit courses to the students along with French Language in coming days. Moreover, on 7th March 2020, CHARUSAT celebrated International Francophonie Day (Journée internationale de la francophonie) by organizing a one-day French Language workshop Je parle français – 1 (I Speak French – 1). Looking at the booming response at this one-day workshop, the institute decided to cater on the same, in the period of lockdown. So far 350+ students have already studied the French language as a credit course at CHARUSAT.
