Gujarat on New Year alert: Three-layer border security, SRPF deployment and zero tolerance on liquor smuggling and drunk driving.
Ahead of December 31 and New Year celebrations, Gujarat Police have imposed a tight, three-layer security grid across sensitive border districts to maintain law and order and crack down on liquor smuggling and drunk driving. Special focus has been placed on Dahod’s Madhya Pradesh border and Banaskantha’s Rajasthan border, where SRPF personnel have been deployed alongside district police and round-the-clock vehicle checks are underway.
In Dahod, checkposts have been activated at all 24 interstate entry points, with permanent barriers, mobile checking teams and continuous highway patrolling. At the key Khangela checkpoint, police are using breath analyzers, e-challan verification, underbody mirrors and special toolkits to detect hidden compartments, leading to the seizure of 20,508 bottles of foreign liquor worth Rs.1.77 crore in recent days.
Similar strict measures are in force at Banaskantha’s Amirgadh border, where vehicles are thoroughly searched, body-worn cameras are being used for close monitoring, and breath tests are mandatory. Senior officers confirmed a zero-tolerance approach towards prohibition violations, drunk driving and illegal activities, with heightened vigilance across highways, urban centres and rural routes to ensure a safe and incident-free New Year.
