Historic Moment for Indian Cricket as 14-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Bags Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.
Today, Friday, December 26, 2025, marked a historic and proud moment for Indian cricket as 14-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi was officially conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP), India’s highest civilian honour for children, in recognition of his extraordinary and record-shattering achievements in the sport at such a young age.
The prestigious award was presented earlier in the day by President Droupadi Murmu at a special ceremony held in New Delhi, coinciding with the national observance of Veer Bal Diwas, thereby adding deeper symbolic significance to the occasion. Following the ceremony, Vaibhav, along with 19 other exceptional young achievers from across the country, is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an interactive session aimed at encouraging youth leadership and celebrating excellence among India’s next generation.
Vaibhav’s selection for the PMRBP comes after a sensational year in Indian cricket, during which he became the youngest player in history to score a List A century, smashing a breathtaking 190 off just 84 balls for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, an innings in which he also eclipsed AB de Villiers’ long-standing world record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket. Already an IPL sensation, he earlier stunned the cricketing world by becoming the youngest centurion in Indian Premier League history with a blistering 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans, firmly establishing himself as one of the brightest talents the country has ever produced. A key member of the India Under-19 squad, Vaibhav is now set to represent the nation at the upcoming Under-19 World Cup in Zimbabwe beginning January 15, 2026, as his meteoric rise continues.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is awarded annually to children between the ages of 5 and 18 for exceptional achievements in fields including sports, bravery, innovation, science, social service and arts, and Vaibhav’s recognition stands as a powerful testament to India’s growing pipeline of young sporting excellence and the nation’s commitment to nurturing talent from an early age.
