Campus Horror in Punjab: Law Student Kills Classmate, Dies by Suicide Minutes Later

A blood-chilling classroom killing has rocked Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, after a law college student walked into a classroom on February 9 and shot dead his female classmate before turning the gun on himself, collapsing at the very spot where the attack unfolded.

The victim, Sandeep Kaur (20), a first-year law student, was seated on a bench before classes began when the accused, Abhiraj Singh, also a student of the same college, allegedly opened fire, killing her instantly and plunging the campus into chaos and terror. Police say Singh then shot himself, was rushed to hospital, and later died, sealing the incident as a shocking murder-suicide caught on campus.

As investigators sealed the college and launched a probe, the victim’s family levelled serious allegations against the college administration, claiming they were initially misled and told their daughter had merely suffered a minor injury in a scuffle—only to arrive and discover she was already dead, her body lying in the classroom.

The family has accused the college of gross negligence, questioning how a student could enter freely with a pistol, with no security checks whatsoever, and demanding strict action against the management. Police say the motive remains officially unconfirmed, though preliminary inputs point to one-sided affection, with the accused allegedly reacting violently after the girl did not reciprocate his advances.

Authorities are now investigating where the weapon came from, whether it was licensed or illegal, and examining the accused’s background, including whether his family owned a firearm. As grief grips Sandeep Kaur’s family—already shattered by the loss of her father and responsible for six daughters and a younger son—the incident has ignited outrage over campus safety, unchecked access to weapons, and the deadly consequences of ignored warning signs, turning a place of learning into a crime scene that has shaken the state.
