PM Modi Unveils India’s First Nature-Themed Airport Terminal in Assam, Northeast’s Biggest Aviation Leap.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati, marking a historic milestone for aviation in Northeast India. Built at a cost of Rs.4,000 crore, the state-of-the-art terminal is the largest in the Northeast, nearly seven times bigger than the existing facility, and is India’s first nature-themed airport terminal.

Designed around the ‘Bamboo Orchids’ concept, the terminal draws inspiration from Assam’s natural and cultural identity — orchids (Kopou Phool), bamboo, the Brahmaputra River, Kaziranga, and Majuli.

Once fully operational, the mega terminal will be capable of handling 13.1 million passengers annually by 2032, with a capacity of 34 air traffic movements per hour, the highest in the region.

Equipped with DigiYatra entry gates, AI-enabled operations, automated baggage handling systems, advanced Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and upgraded runway infrastructure, the project is expected to significantly enhance passenger experience, boost connectivity, tourism, trade and economic growth, and position Assam as the new aviation gateway of the Northeast.
