Another open pit, another young life lost: ncr’s infrastructure failures in spotlight.
Noida/Delhi: A tragic accident in Noida’s Sector 150 has sparked a major political storm after 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta died when his car plunged into a 70-foot-deep, waterlogged excavation pit on a poorly lit stretch during dense winter fog.
With no proper barricading or warning signs in place, the vehicle reportedly struck a low boundary wall and fell into the massive construction site, where Mehta remained trapped overnight as water filled the cabin. His body and submerged car were recovered the next morning following a frantic search.
The incident has intensified political tensions, with the Aam Aadmi Party accusing BJP-led administrations in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi of turning construction zones into “death traps” due to civic negligence.
The tragedy follows similar recent fatalities in Janakpuri and Rohini, where individuals fell into open pits and drains, raising serious concerns about inadequate lighting, weak barricades, and missing safety signage at infrastructure sites. Authorities in Noida have launched a probe into the construction company responsible, while in Delhi, officials have already suspended engineers in connection with a similar case.
