Nationwide Bank Strike on February 12 to Disrupt Public Sector Banking Operations Across India.
Public sector banks across India may face major disruption on Thursday, February 12, 2026, due to a nationwide strike called as part of the Bharat Bandh. Major bank unions have confirmed participation, which means most government bank branches are likely to remain closed or offer very limited services.
Customers may not be able to deposit or withdraw cash at bank counters, and cheque clearance could be delayed. Services like passbook updates, locker access, opening new accounts, and loan-related work may also be unavailable. ATMs are expected to work, but in some busy areas, machines could run out of cash if refilling is affected.
The strike is being held over issues such as opposition to new labour laws, demand for a five-day work week in banks, concerns over privatization of public sector banks, and staff shortages.
Online banking services like UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS will continue to function normally. Private banks such as HDFC, ICICI, and Axis Bank are not part of the strike, though minor delays in cheque clearing are possible.
Customers who need urgent branch services are advised to complete their work before the strike or wait until services resume.
