Metro Horror in Mulund: Under-Construction Pillar Crashes Onto Moving Auto, Sparks Safety Storm
A section of an under-construction metro pillar collapsed in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, crashing onto a passing auto-rickshaw in Mulund (West) and triggering a major emergency response. The incident occurred around 12:15 pm near the Johnson & Johnson premises on LBS Road, close to the Mulund Fire Station, during ongoing work on a metro corridor pier in the RAJV (Milan) stretch.
According to officials, a portion of a parapet segment fell from height and struck the moving rickshaw. Initial reports indicated that three to four people may have been injured, while later updates confirmed that at least two individuals were hurt and rushed to a nearby hospital. Their condition is currently being monitored, and medical assistance is being provided.
Emergency teams including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, metro authorities, ward officials, disaster management personnel, and 108 ambulance services were swiftly deployed to the site. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation confirmed that rescue and relief operations were immediately initiated and that authorities are securing the area to prevent further risk.
The metro project team is working closely with civic and disaster management agencies to assess the cause of the collapse and ensure structural safety. The incident has once again raised concerns about construction safety protocols at large infrastructure sites in the city.
